A group of people vandalized Hindu houses and temples in Shyamnagar, Satkhira over a trivial incident; At least seven people were injured this time.
Shyamnagar Police Station OC Nazmul Huda said the attack took place on Tuesday night (April 13,2021) at Fultala in Munshiganj Union of the upazila. The injured are Nagendra Baulia (60), Subhash Baulia (42), Govinda Baulia (40), Jatin Baulia (38), Milon Baulia (20), Nityananda (18), Mamta Baulia (25) and Tapan Baulia (48).
He said they were being treated at Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex. Nazmul Huda said vandalism of Hindu houses and temples took place following a love affair between a local girl and a boy from another neighborhood.
The OC said police visited the spot as soon as they heard the news of the attack. Satkhira Zilla Parishad panel chairman Dalim Kumar Gharami said a group of miscreants vandalized the houses of Subhash Baulia and Nagendranath of Fultala village in Munshiganj garage and Ishwaripur following a love affair with a local girl.
“Hundreds of assailants carried out a surprise attack with rods and sticks at around 8.45 pm on Tuesday. When the locals tried to stop them, the people of the area became helpless near the bricks thrown like rain. ”
Jatin Baulia said that hundreds of terrorists of different ages attacked and vandalized the Shitala temple and Rasmoni temple and the houses of Subhash and Nagen after they stopped some youths who were harassing local girls.
Shyamnagar Upazila Parishad Chairman Ataul Haque Dolan, Vice Chairman Saiduzzaman Sayed, Burigoalini Union Parishad Chairman Bhabatosh Kumar Mandal, human rights activist Mohan Kumar Mandal visited the spot and consoled the victims. ASP (Kaliganj Circle) SM Mohaiminur Rahman visited the spot. He said appropriate action would be taken against those involved in the incident.
